Barcelona might not be the first city that springs to mind when you think of Christmas markets, but it’s a brilliant choice if you fancy festive lights, traditional markets, sightseeing and plenty of tapas all in one trip.

Barcelona’s main Christmas market is the Fira de Santa Llúcia, which takes place outside Barcelona Cathedral in the Gothic Quarter.
Dating back to 1786, it’s the city’s oldest Christmas market and usually features more than 200 stalls selling decorations, nativity figures, Christmas trees, crafts and traditional Catalan gifts. The exact dates for 2026 are still awaiting confirmation, but the market traditionally runs from late November until 23 December. Fira de Santa Llúcia
You can also visit the Christmas market beside the Sagrada Família, see the city’s festive lights and explore Barcelona’s famous attractions while you’re there.

It’s a really good base for exploring Barcelona on foot, with plenty of public transport options nearby for anywhere further afield.
