We've found a fantastic-value DIY October half-term break combining Bergamo, Lake Como and Milan, with return flights (from Newcastle) and a family room from just £171pp based on four people sharing.

Price based on 2 adults and 2 children (up to 18 years).

Base yourself in the heart of Bergamo's beautiful Città Alta before taking easy day trips by train to both Lake Como and Milan. It's a brilliant way to experience three very different destinations in one short break without constantly changing hotels.

Why Visit Bergamo?

This is one of those trips where you get three destinations for the price of one.

Spend your evenings wandering the cobbled streets of Bergamo's beautiful medieval Upper Town, then use the excellent rail network for easy day trips to both Lake Como and Milan.

I'd recommend heading to Varenna on Lake Como, one of my favourite lakeside towns, where you can stroll along the waterfront or hop on a ferry to explore more of the lake if services are running.

Milan is less than an hour away by train, making it easy to visit the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Sforza Castle before returning to Bergamo for the evening.

Suggested Mini Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive into Bergamo and spend the evening exploring the beautiful streets of Città Alta.

Day 2
Take the train to Lake Como, visiting Lecco and Varenna.

Day 3
Enjoy a full day exploring Milan.

Day 4
Head back to Bergamo Airport for your flight home.
