If you're looking for the best sauna experience in Rovaniemi, two attractions are mentioned time and time again: Lapland Winter Park Sauna World and the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna.
We've now experienced both, but on two very different trips.
We visited the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna during our 3-day Rovaniemi itinerary, where I stayed overnight at the Arctic SnowHotel with a friend before enjoying the Snow Sauna the following morning. A few months later, we experienced Lapland Winter Park Sauna World during our 2-day Rovaniemi itinerary for my daughter's birthday, giving us the chance to compare two of Lapland's most unique wellness experiences.
Although both combine traditional Finnish sauna culture with beautiful snowy surroundings, they offer very different experiences. Lapland Winter Park feels like a modern wellness attraction with multiple saunas, hot tubs and plunge pools, while the Arctic SnowHotel focuses on privacy, exclusivity and the world's only Snow Sauna.
In this guide, I'll compare the two based on our own experiences to help you decide which is the better fit for your Lapland itinerary.

Having experienced both, I honestly don't think there's a clear winner because they're designed for different types of visitors.
If you're looking for the best overall wellness experience, I'd probably recommend Lapland Winter Park Sauna World. The variety of saunas, modern facilities and excellent value make it somewhere you could happily spend a relaxing afternoon.
However, if you're looking for one truly unique Arctic experience, I'd choose the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna. Having your own private Finnish sauna, the world's only Snow Sauna and a private outdoor jacuzzi overlooking the snowy forest is unlike anything else we've experienced in Finland.
For us, they were equally enjoyable for completely different reasons.

Although both attractions sit outside Rovaniemi city centre, they're surprisingly easy to reach.
One thing they have in common is that both shuttle buses pick up from Santa Claus Village, making them easy to include if you're already planning a visit there.
Lapland Winter Park is around 15 minutes from Rovaniemi and operates a free shuttle bus throughout the day. One feature we really liked was the flexibility. Once you'd finished, you could simply catch whichever return shuttle suited you best rather than sticking to one fixed departure time.
The Arctic SnowHotel sits deeper in the countryside, around 30 minutes from Rovaniemi. If you book the Visiting Package, return transport is included from both Rovaniemi city centre and Santa Claus Village. However, if you only book the Snow Sauna Experience (€99), you'll need to arrange your own transport or drive yourself.
My verdict: Lapland Winter Park is slightly more flexible, but both are straightforward to reach without hiring a car.
This is something I hadn't really appreciated until we'd experienced both.
We visited the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna as two adults during an overnight stay, and it felt like the perfect addition to that trip. The private setting, peaceful atmosphere and outdoor jacuzzi make it ideal for couples, friends or anyone celebrating a special occasion.
By contrast, we visited Lapland Winter Park Sauna World during a family trip for my daughter's birthday. Although we were travelling with a teenager, it felt much more family-friendly and social, with lots of other families enjoying the facilities together.
Both experiences welcome children, so you don't need to be travelling as adults to enjoy either of them. However, I'd say they naturally appeal to different audiences.
Lapland Winter Park feels better suited to families looking for a fun wellness experience together, while the Arctic SnowHotel is more about slowing down and enjoying a peaceful, memorable Arctic experience.
Neither experience is better, they simply suit different styles of holiday.
Although both experiences last around 90 minutes, there's a noticeable difference in price.
At the time of writing, Lapland Winter Park Sauna World costs €65 per adult, while the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna Experience costs €99 per adult when booked without an overnight stay or transport.
On paper, Lapland Winter Park looks like the better value option. For a lower price, you have access to multiple themed saunas, hot tubs, cold plunge pools and modern wellness facilities, giving you plenty to experience throughout your session.
The Arctic SnowHotel, however, offers something completely different. Rather than paying for a larger spa complex, you're paying for exclusivity. Your booking includes private use of a traditional Finnish sauna, the world's only Snow Sauna and a private outdoor jacuzzi, with no one else sharing the experience.
One thing worth considering is how each experience fits into the rest of your day. If you're already visiting the Arctic SnowHotel to tour the ice hotel, enjoy the Ice Restaurant or stay overnight, adding the Snow Sauna feels like a natural extension of the experience. Likewise, if you're spending time at Lapland Winter Park, the sauna is just one part of a wider attraction that also includes winter activities and a café.
My verdict: If you're comparing the sauna experiences alone, Lapland Winter Park offers the better value for money. However, if you're looking for a more exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experience, I think the Arctic SnowHotel justifies its higher price.
Although both sauna experiences in Rovaniemi are designed to help you relax, they offer completely different environments.
At Lapland Winter Park Sauna World, all of the saunas, plunge pools and hot tubs are shared with everyone booked into your session. When we visited, there were around 30 people, creating a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. Despite the busy changing areas at the start and end of the session, the sauna and wellness areas themselves never felt overcrowded.
The Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna is the complete opposite. From the moment you're shown to your changing room, everything is private. Your booking includes exclusive use of a traditional Finnish sauna, the Snow Sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi, allowing you to move between each area entirely at your own pace.
For us, this completely changed the feel of the experience. Lapland Winter Park felt like a modern wellness centre where you could enjoy a variety of different saunas, while the Arctic SnowHotel felt far more intimate and exclusive.
My verdict: If you're looking for privacy, celebrating a special occasion or simply want a quieter experience, the Arctic SnowHotel is the clear winner. If you don't mind sharing the facilities and enjoy a more social atmosphere, Lapland Winter Park is still incredibly relaxing and never felt too busy during our visit.
One area where the two experiences differ significantly is the facilities themselves.
Lapland Winter Park Sauna World feels like a modern wellness centre. The changing rooms are spacious, with lockers, showers and hairdryers, and the overall design feels contemporary. The variety of saunas, plunge pools and hot tubs also gives you far more choice throughout your visit.
However, because everyone shares the same facilities, we did find it became quite busy at the beginning and end of our session. There wasn't much space to get changed comfortably, and we found ourselves waiting for other guests to finish before we could access the changing area and lockers. Once everyone had spread out around the different saunas, it felt much quieter.
The Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna is much simpler, but it also feels more relaxed. Each booking has its own private changing room, shower, Finnish sauna, Snow Sauna and outdoor jacuzzi, so there's no waiting around or sharing facilities with other guests.
My verdict: Although Lapland Winter Park has the more modern facilities and a greater variety of saunas, I actually found the Arctic SnowHotel more relaxing overall because everything was completely private. If you value modern spa facilities, Lapland Winter Park is the clear winner. However, if you're not a fan of shared changing spaces or prefer a little more privacy, I'd recommend the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna instead. The private changing room, sauna and jacuzzi create a much calmer experience from start to finish.
Although both experiences are centred around Finnish sauna culture, they couldn't be more different.
Lapland Winter Park Sauna World is all about variety. Rather than spending your time in one or two saunas, you can move freely between several different sauna experiences, along with hot tubs and cold plunge pools. Each sauna has its own atmosphere, making it fun to try them all and discover which you enjoy most. We found ourselves naturally moving around the complex throughout the 90-minute session, spending a little time in each before trying something different.
The Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna takes a completely different approach. Instead of offering lots of choice, it focuses on three carefully curated experiences: a traditional Finnish sauna, the world's only Snow Sauna and a private outdoor jacuzzi. You have exclusive use of all three, allowing you to move between them entirely at your own pace without sharing the space with anyone else.
For me, the standout experience at Lapland Winter Park was the variety. There was always something new to try, and it felt like a proper wellness experience. At the Arctic SnowHotel, it was the atmosphere that made it special. Sitting in a private jacuzzi surrounded by snow-covered forest after warming up in the Finnish sauna created one of those unforgettable Lapland moments.
My verdict: If you're a sauna enthusiast or enjoy trying different wellness experiences, I'd choose Lapland Winter Park Sauna World. If you're looking for a quieter, more immersive Arctic experience that you'll remember long after your trip, I'd choose the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna.
If you're travelling outside Rovaniemi for a sauna experience, it's worth thinking about what else you can enjoy while you're there.
Lapland Winter Park is much more than just a sauna complex. Alongside Sauna World, you can enjoy ice skating, snow tubing, sledging, kick sledding, mini snowmobiles for children, snow play areas and the on-site café and restaurant, making it easy to spend several hours there.
The Arctic SnowHotel offers a completely different experience. Alongside the Snow Sauna, you can explore the beautifully carved SnowHotel, visit the Ice Bar, dine in the Ice Restaurant, meet the resident reindeer, go sledging or even stay overnight in one of the ice rooms or glass-roofed cabins. Many of the SnowHotel's organised activities, including snowmobile safaris and Northern Lights excursions, also depart from here, making it easy to turn your visit into a full Arctic experience.
We experienced the Snow Sauna during our 3-day Rovaniemi itinerary, when we stayed overnight at the Arctic SnowHotel. Looking back, I can't imagine doing one without the other, they complement each other perfectly. Likewise, we visited Lapland Winter Park during our 2-day Rovaniemi itinerary, where it fitted naturally into a fun-filled teen birthday weekend.
We also featured Lapland Winter Park in our 15 Best Things to Do in Lapland with Teenagers guide, as it's one of the few attractions that genuinely appeals to both teens and adults.
My verdict: If you're looking for a day packed with family-friendly winter activities, Lapland Winter Park has more to keep you entertained. If you're looking for a more immersive Arctic experience centred around the SnowHotel, Ice Restaurant and possibly an overnight stay, the Arctic SnowHotel offers far more than just a sauna.

It depends what you're looking for. If you want the best overall wellness experience with a variety of saunas and modern facilities, I'd choose Lapland Winter Park Sauna World. If you're looking for something more unique and private, the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna is hard to beat.

The range of saunas, hot tubs and plunge pools, combined with the modern facilities and lower price, make it fantastic value. It's somewhere you could happily spend 90 minutes moving between different sauna experiences, and it works particularly well as part of a family day out. During our visit for my daughter's birthday, it was one of the highlights of our 2-day Rovaniemi itinerary.
The Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna, however, offers something completely different. Rather than focusing on variety, it creates a much more exclusive experience. Having your own private Finnish sauna, the world's only Snow Sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi overlooking the snowy forest feels incredibly special, especially if you're already visiting the SnowHotel or staying overnight as we did during our 3-day Rovaniemi itinerary.
For us, they're actually equal favourites, but for completely different reasons.

If I had to recommend just one, I'd say it depends entirely on the type of holiday you're planning. If you're travelling as a family or simply want the best sauna facilities, choose Lapland Winter Park Sauna World. If you're looking for one unforgettable Arctic experience that feels truly unique, especially as a couple or during an overnight stay, I'd choose the Arctic SnowHotel Snow Sauna.
My recommendation: If your itinerary and budget allow, don't think of these as competing experiences. Having now visited both, I genuinely believe they complement each other perfectly and showcase two very different sides of Finnish sauna culture. Neither disappointed us, and I'd happily return to both on a future trip to Lapland.
