Fancy a festive getaway without flying abroad?
I've searched for some of my favourite city-centre hotels in four of the UK's most popular Christmas market destinations, with Sunday night stays throughout December, when prices are often at their lowest.
All prices below are based on two adults sharing the cheapest available room and include accommodation only (breakfast extra where applicable).
Why Sunday Nights?
If your schedule allows, Sunday is often one of the cheapest nights to stay in UK city centres.
Hotel prices are usually much lower than on Friday or Saturday nights, making it a great way to enjoy a festive break for less.
Better still, you can soak up the atmosphere of the Christmas markets on Sunday, when they're often at their busiest and most festive, before enjoying a quieter Monday morning exploring the city centre, doing a spot of Christmas shopping or grabbing breakfast before heading home.
📍 1 minute from Grassmarket 🏰 3 minutes to the Royal Mile 🏰 4 minutes to Edinburgh Castle
One of my favourite locations in Edinburgh. You're right in the heart of the Old Town with many of the city's main attractions within a few minutes' walk.
📍 Located in the historic Stanley Dock 🏨 Housed in a beautifully restored Victorian warehouse 🚖 Around 10 minutes from Liverpool Christmas Market and the city centre
One of Liverpool's most unique hotels, located in the beautifully restored Stanley Dock warehouse.
If you're looking for something with a real wow factor rather than a standard city hotel, this is a great choice.
If I was choosing purely on value, I'd probably go for Liverpool.
For atmosphere, Edinburgh is hard to beat.
If you want the biggest choice of festive attractions, London has something for everyone.
And if you're looking for a lively weekend with fantastic food and Christmas markets, Manchester is always a great option.
