We've now experienced the Sauna World for ourselves during our winter weekend in Finnish Lapland, spending 90 minutes moving between eight different saunas, relaxing in outdoor hot tubs and even taking the plunge into an icy cold pool.
It turned out to be one of the most relaxing experiences of our trip and offered a completely different side to Lapland compared with the usual snowmobiling, husky rides and Santa attractions.
In this honest review, I'll share exactly what the experience involves, what's included, who I think it's best suited to and whether I'd book it again.

We booked it during our winter weekend in Rovaniemi for my daughter's birthday, after a busy couple of days exploring Santa Claus Village, trying ice karting and spending time outdoors in the snow. It felt like the perfect way to slow the pace, giving my teenage daughters a more grown-up experience while introducing us all to one of Finland's best-loved traditions.
Over the course of 90 minutes, we worked our way around all eight saunas, each with its own atmosphere, before cooling off in the icy plunge pool and relaxing in the outdoor jacuzzis and traditional wood-fired hot tub. It was unlike any spa experience we'd had before and quickly became one of the highlights of our trip.
At €65 per person, it's not the cheapest activity in Rovaniemi, but I genuinely thought it offered excellent value for money. The price includes access to all eight unique saunas, two outdoor jacuzzis, a traditional wood-fired hot tub, an ice plunge pool, plus a bathrobe, towel, croc-style sauna shoes, toiletries and a bottle of water. There's also a free shuttle bus to and from both Rovaniemi city centre and Santa Claus Village, saving you the cost of a taxi.
Considering you get a full 90-minute sauna session, all of the equipment provided and the opportunity to explore Lapland Winter Park afterwards if you wish, I actually thought it compared very favourably with a spa day back home. In fact, I'd happily choose this over many UK spa experiences.
One thing that's also worth knowing is that you don't need to buy a Lapland Winter Park admission ticket to visit Sauna World. It can be booked as a standalone experience, making it an easy addition to almost any Rovaniemi itinerary.
In this honest review, I'll explain exactly what the experience involves, what we thought, a few things I'd know before booking, and whether I'd happily do it again.
Sauna World is a dedicated spa experience located within Lapland Winter Park, around 20 minutes from Rovaniemi city centre. Unlike the rest of the park, you don't need an admission ticket to visit, making it easy to enjoy as a standalone activity during your trip.
The experience lasts 90 minutes and gives you unlimited access to eight unique saunas, each offering a slightly different atmosphere. Alongside the saunas, you'll also find two outdoor jacuzzis, a traditional wood-fired hot tub and an icy plunge pool for anyone wanting to embrace the full Finnish sauna experience.
Everything you need is included in the price, including a bathrobe, towel, croc-type shoes, toiletries and a bottle of water, so there's very little to bring apart from your swimwear.
We loved moving between the different saunas, each one offering something slightly different. Some were hotter than others, one had the distinctive scent of tar, while another overlooked the snowy surroundings, making it easy to spend the full 90 minutes exploring them all at your own pace.
If you've never experienced a traditional Finnish sauna before, don't worry. There's no set route to follow or timetable to stick to. Simply move between the saunas and pools however you like, taking breaks in the fresh Arctic air whenever you need to cool down.
As we'd spent the morning in Santa Claus Village, the free shuttle bus didn't quite fit our plans, so we booked a taxi instead, which cost around €50 for the three of us. After our sauna session, we caught the complimentary shuttle bus back to Rovaniemi city centre, so we ended up trying both transport options.
We arrived a little early and checked in at the main reception, where the staff told us we had plenty of time before our session started. Rather than waiting around, we took the opportunity to wander through the park and visit the reindeer before making our way over to Sauna World.
The sauna area is tucked away in its own enclosed section of Lapland Winter Park, making it feel much more private than the rest of the attraction. Once inside, we were each given a bathrobe, towel, croc-style sauna shoes, toiletries and a bottle of water before heading into the changing rooms.
The only downside of our visit was the women's changing room. It was much busier than the men's and, because we were among the last to get changed, there wasn't much space around the lockers or benches. My husband said there were only a handful of people using the men's facilities, whereas the women's changing room was almost full.
Fortunately, this didn't spoil the experience. We still had plenty of time to enjoy all eight saunas, the outdoor jacuzzis, the traditional wood-fired hot tub and the icy plunge pool. As we had booked the final session of the day, there was no pressure to leave the moment our time was up.
We finished at a relaxed pace before getting changed, which also meant we avoided the rush in the changing rooms.
Afterwards, we stopped at the on-site café for a drink and something to eat before catching the free shuttle back into Rovaniemi. It was a lovely way to round off the afternoon and made the whole experience feel even more relaxed.
Bring your swimwear: This is the only essential item you'll need. Bathrobes, towels, croc-style sauna shoes, toiletries and a bottle of water are all provided.
Allow around 2.5–3 hours: Although your sauna session lasts 90 minutes, it's worth arriving early to explore Lapland Winter Park before your slot. Afterwards, we enjoyed a drink in the on-site café before catching the free shuttle back to Rovaniemi.
No park ticket required: Sauna World can be booked as a standalone experience, so you don't need to buy admission to Lapland Winter Park unless you'd also like to try the other activities.
Free shuttle available: Complimentary shuttle buses run between Rovaniemi city centre, Santa Claus Village and Lapland Winter Park. We took a taxi there to fit our plans, then used the free shuttle back into the city afterwards.
The saunas are unisex: Men and women have separate changing rooms, but all eight saunas and the pools are shared, so remember to bring a swimsuit.
Changing rooms can get busy: The women's changing room was much busier than the men's during our visit. If you're booked on one of the later sessions, don't worry too much about rushing. We found we could take our time getting changed afterwards once most people had left.
Minimum age: Children aged 3 and over are welcome. We saw younger children enjoying the experience during our visit, but personally I think Sauna World is best suited to tweens, teenagers and adults. We visited to celebrate my daughter's 14th birthday, and it felt like the perfect age to appreciate the different saunas, outdoor hot tubs and the relaxing atmosphere.
Try the ice plunge pool: It isn't compulsory, but it's all part of the traditional Finnish sauna experience. Even if you only manage a quick dip, it's worth trying once!

After experiencing Sauna World for ourselves, I'd say it's best suited to teenagers, adults, couples and friends looking to unwind after a few busy days exploring Lapland.
We visited to celebrate my daughter's 14th birthday, and it felt like the perfect age. She loved trying the different saunas, relaxing in the outdoor hot tubs and embracing a side of Finnish culture that's completely different from the usual Lapland activities.
Although children aged 3 and over are welcome, I think younger children will probably get more enjoyment from the sledging, mini snowmobiles, ice skating and other activities in Lapland Winter Park.
Sauna World is designed to be peaceful and relaxing, so I think older children and teenagers are much more likely to appreciate the experience.
It's also an excellent choice if you've packed your itinerary with snowmobiling, husky rides and sightseeing. Spending 90 minutes moving between the saunas and pools was the perfect way to slow the pace and recharge before the next adventure.
Although you don't need a Winter Park admission ticket to visit Sauna World, it's worth knowing that the park offers plenty of other activities if you're planning to make a day of it.
These activities are charged separately and aren't included with your Sauna World ticket, but you can easily combine them with your visit if you have the time.

We arrived early for our sauna session, checked in at reception and spent some time visiting the reindeer before making our way over to Sauna World. Afterwards, we stopped at the on-site café for a drink before catching the free shuttle back into Rovaniemi, which was a lovely way to round off the afternoon.
If you're planning to spend the whole day at Lapland Winter Park, it's worth looking at the activity packages available. We also tried the ice karting during our visit to Rovaniemi, which ended up being one of our favourite experiences of the entire trip.
Without a doubt, yes.
After three trips to Lapland, we've experienced everything from husky sledding and snowmobiling to the Arctic SnowHotel, reindeer rides and ice karting. Sauna World offered something completely different and ended up being one of the most relaxing experiences of our trip.
What I loved most was that it gave us the chance to experience an important part of Finnish culture while also slowing the pace after several busy days sightseeing. Moving between the eight different saunas, cooling off in the Arctic air and relaxing in the outdoor hot tubs was the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
At €65 per person, I genuinely think it offers excellent value for money. Everything you need is provided, there's a free shuttle from Rovaniemi city centre and Santa Claus Village, and you don't even need to buy a Lapland Winter Park admission ticket to enjoy it.
Would I book it again? Absolutely. In fact, if I return to Rovaniemi, it's one of the experiences I'd happily repeat.
